Accessible holidays in North Devon

Did you know that you can hire a wheelchair accessible boat at Wimbleball Lake on Exmoor? No nor did we, but we do now! They’re called – Wheelyboats – and they look a lot of fun.

We had several guest stay with us last year who had difficulties with their mobility, some of them in wheelchairs, so we thought we’d do a bit of research and put together a list of accessible places in North Devon, then create some new pages on the website.

The list is by no means exhaustive but our aim was to give a good indication of the variety of activities local to Lower Campscott that can be enjoyed by those less mobile and it has also given us some ideas to pass on to our guests when they come to visit us in the farm shop.

Many of the local attractions such as RHS Rosemoor and NT Arlington Court have all-terrain mobility scooters, Trampers, for hire. Usually for a nominal fee or free if you are a member of the Countryside Mobility South West Scheme which costs as little as £2.50 for the day. There’s also a Tramper at Woolacombe TIC so you can explore Woolacombe Warren or access the beach, Saunton Beach have a Landeez all-terrain wheelchair for hire which you can use on the beach and in the shallows.

We’ve had a chat with Braunton Mobility Care too and they will hire scooters out to guests for a few days or a week’s holiday. They’re extremely helpful and supplied equipment for Pinetree’s wet room. We also have a shower stool and freestanding adjustable WC frame surround to lend guests in any of our cottages or lodges during their stay.

Do have a look at the pages on our website – one about accessible North Devon and another about accessibility in our cottages – and if you know anyone who might benefit from the information then please spread the word. If you know of any other places or information we should add we’d love to hear from you so we can keep the website up to date.
