Ask our guests what they love about Lower Campscott’s location and most of them will say that having holiday cottages near Lee Bay is close to the top of the list. This magical little cove is a treat to explore at any time of the year, it’s perfect for rock pooling, kayaking, swimming or simply sitting back to relax and watch the waves. Borrow a bucket and spade and a net from the games room and head off down the footpath to the village of Lee and then to the beach. The sandy foreshore is perfect for sandcastles and there are plenty of crabs and other creatures hiding in the rock pools at high tide. Do you know the difference between a male and female crab? We’ll give you a clue, it’s in the shape of their tails, yes, really… crabs have tails!
At low tide you can follow the smuggler’s path from Lee Bay cut through the rocks to the shingle beach of Sandy Cove, full of flat stones perfect for skimming. This is a lovely secluded little cove, a wonderful suntrap on warm days and when the tide is right you can swim out to the rocks. Wooden steps at the back of the cove lead up to the coast path so you won’t get cut off by the tide and it’s a short walk back into Lee village. You’ll find several graded downloadable walks around Lee Bay Village and further afield on our website walking holidays page.
Be sure to allow time for a browse around the Old School Room Craft Gallery in Lee Bay Village where you’ll find lots of lovely arts and crafts pieces. The gallery is run by Louise Thompson, who is a very talented artist herself and there are several of Louise’s pieces in amongst the stock including beautiful painted silk, colourful glass lanterns and stunning coastal & countryside lino cut pictures.
Of course a trip to Lee Bay wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Grampus Inn, where they serve their own home brewed ales as well as great food – we think it’s always a good idea to be well-fortified before the uphill walk back to the farm!
