Family Days Out in North Devon

Here at Lower Campscott Farm, summer’s a busy and exciting time. Families are arriving, the animals are out demanding attention and the event calendar is packed across North Devon. If you’re planning a break with us, we’ve put together some of our favourite ideas for family days out in North Devon – all easy to get to from the farm.

Gig Regatta at Clovelly

First up, we’re looking forward to the Gig Regatta in Clovelly. This traditional rowing event is always a firm favourite, whether you’re a serious maritime enthusiast or just fancy a good day out by the water. The colourful pilot gigs (think big wooden rowing boats) are impressive to watch, with local crews battling it out along the River Torridge. There’s plenty going on shoreside too, with food stalls, music, and that friendly Bideford buzz. It’s a great way to soak up a bit of local culture while the kids enjoy the excitement of the races.

Wind in the Willows – Open Air Theatre in Croyde

For something a little different, why not take the family along to the open air theatre performance of Wind in the Willows in Croyde? It’s a magical experience – sitting outdoors with the sea air in your lungs, watching Mole, Ratty, and Toad come to life on stage. Bring a picnic blanket and settle in for an evening that both little ones and adults will love. Performances like these are what make summer in North Devon feel so special.

The North Devon Show – A True Country Day Out

No list of summer days out would be complete without mentioning the North Devon Show. Taking place just a short drive from Lower Campscott, this one-day agricultural show is a proper family day out. There are farm animals to meet (we’re a bit biased, but the livestock displays are our favourite), horse shows, craft stalls, and food producers showcasing the best of the region. It’s the kind of event that keeps everyone entertained – and gives you a real taste of Devon country life.

Beyond the Big Events

Of course, there’s plenty more to explore while you’re here. From sandy beaches, coastal walks and charming villages to days out at The Big Sheep, The Milky Way, Watermouth Castle and more, North Devon really does have it all. We’re always happy to share our local tips, whether you fancy rockpooling at Lee Bay or an ice cream stop in Ilfracombe, so don’t hesitate to get in contact with us if you have any questions.
