Mikey & Lancelot arrive at Lower Campscott

Our rabbits Benjamin, Hoover and Socks are a real hit with our guests, they’re looking so much healthier than when they first arrived on the farm and are clearly enjoying all the attention they get. We’re always pleased to be able to give rescue animals a happy home and when Tony heard that our local branch of the Blue Cross animal charity was looking for a forever home for two guinea pigs we knew they would enjoy living at Lower Campscott.

Last week Tony could be seen banging in posts, securing wire netting and constructing a hutch ready for the arrival of Mikey & Lancelot. They are still quite shy but we managed to get a quick photo of them out in the new run before they dived back into their cosy house. Once they become a bit braver we’re sure they will prove as popular with our guests as the rabbits.

The wildflower meadow around the pond is looking particularly pretty this year with a beautiful display of oxeye daisies, foxgloves, sorrel, campion, purple knapweed and many other flowers, all of which help to provide an important habitat for a great variety of insects and small creatures as well as birds. Twice a day the wild ducks come to the office to be fed before returning to the pond and Gill’s willow sculpture is thriving creating a pretty feature by the footbridge. It’s a great place to have a picnic so there’s now a picnic table in the wildflower meadow, positioned near the pond for our guests to enjoy some al fresco dining or simply sit and watch the wildlife and drink in the wonderful view across the meadow and fields to the sea.

It’s not long now until the school holidays when the cottages will be full of guests – a chance to welcome returning visitors, some of whom have been staying with us for many years and to meet new ones too. Farmer Tony will be looking for willing hands to help him with the animal feeding every morning and Gypsy the Shetland pony will be needing lots of fuss and a good brush too. We’ve just a couple of holidays left so if you want a last minute summer break in July then do have a look at the special offers page of our website.
